| "Although it is so sad, we must look at it because it is truth." -Avijit from Born Into Brothels
Tonight,
a bunch of junior (almost senior!) girls spent the night at my house:
Kelsey J., Kayla U., Kayla M., Holly S., Hannah M., and then Sarah Z.
and Kelley (not a senior) were here for the movie, fondue, and
brownies. It was such a fun night. We watched Born Into Brothels, a
documentary about children who grow up in the red light district in
Calcutta, India. The documentary shows how they learn photography and
how they grow up and learn to have hope for their future. It is a
beautiful story--hard to watch, but truthful.
"There is nothing called 'hope' in my future."
This
is what many of the children believe as they grow up in an environment
where their moms are prostitutes, and their dads, if they have them,
are either addicted to drugs or alcohol, and many beat their wives or
children. The sad truth is that this is the reality of "fathers" even
for many children in America today. I loved introducing this movie
to these girls. They have such huge hearts for others and they were
touched by the film. My hope is that God will shape their heart more
and more towards loving the poor with whatever talents God has given
them through movies like this one.
The first time I saw Born Into Brothels was March 17. Watching it a second time has been inspiring yet again. (This was copied from my new blog site, which I'm updating much more frequently than this one. Check it out!)

| Tonight I went on a jog with Kelsey which was awesome. I got to see a beautiful sunset and have a great conversation. And I also got to go to street church. It was such a wonderful time meeting with old friends tonight. It had been a couple of months since I had been out.

| I started a new blog my friends! I will continue to post here occasionally, but will be updating the other more consistently. Please check it out!

| I just got to spend time talking with Debra. It had been such a long time since we last talked. One of the things she reminded me of was how we often tend to get "worried" about whether or not we are being ourselves or communicating ourselves well. There is a general freedom that comes from being able to have good self-expression. And yet, life is not about us. When we focus too much on ourselves, we forget about that. Who cares if we can't express ourselves well...if we are focused on others and giving our lives for the Kingdom of God, even if we can't express ourselves well, we are living faithfully for Him. He has called us to be faithful.

| On myspace, they have a new ad that comes up every time I sign off: "Boyfriend season is right around the corner!" Ummm, yeah....they can't come up with anything better than that? That is the stupidest thing I've ever heard.
By the way, have you ever noticed that myspace ads are aimed towards your gender? Depending on whether you're a boy or girl, you'll get different ads to attract you to the opposite sex. Yep, guys don't get ads about boyfriend season. | | |
